Detroit and its “rust belt” peers have the people, resources and ideas to emerge as global centers for the design, artistic and creative power necessary to invigorate communities suffering from a down-turned era of manufacturing. The Rust Belt to Artist Belt Conference explores the ways these cities are being shaped and reinvented by the diverse skill sets of artists, designers and other creative entrepreneurs.

The Rust Belt to Artists Belt conference will create the foundation for a sustained dialogue connecting these creative practitioners to creative sector business owners, advanced manufacturers and prototypers. The conference will demonstrate a re-imagined future, attainable when each of these groups are connected into a creative supply chain of innovative thinkers and achievers, who – when utilizing the Midwest’s unique mix of assets – can spark economic growth, efficiency and improved aesthetics.

Mid-west rust belt cities like Detroit are the perfect proving ground for the pioneering ideas of artists and designers working in socially engaged and entrepreneurial ways to affect change in community and economic development to stimulate prosperity and equity in regions. To highlight this fact, the conference is looking for involvement from municipal leaders, neighborhood enthusiasts, community and economic development authorities and you!

Please join us on April 6th & 7th, 2011 to exchange ideas and provide insight, as well as learn from and be inspired by our presenters, on reaching our full potential when you put the creative industries to work in post-industrial cities.
